नई दिल्ली: जनरल धीराज सेठ ने मंगलवार को भारतीय सेना के 31वें थल सेनाध्यक्ष (COAS) के रूप में कार्यभार संभाल लिया। उन्होंने जनरल उपेंद्र द्विवेदी का स्थान लिया है, जो चार दशकों से अधिक की शानदार सैन्य सेवा के बाद 30 जून 2026 को सेवानिवृत्त हुए।
राष्ट्रीय रक्षा अकादमी (NDA), खड़कवासला के पूर्व छात्र जनरल सेठ दिसंबर 1986 में बख्तरबंद कोर (Armoured Corps) में कमीशन हुए थे। लगभग 40 वर्षों के अपने लंबे सैन्य करियर के दौरान उन्होंने विभिन्न परिचालन क्षेत्रों में महत्वपूर्ण कमान, स्टाफ और रणनीतिक पदों पर कार्य किया है।
व्यापक कमान अनुभव
जनरल सेठ के पास भारतीय सेना के दो परिचालन कमानों—दक्षिण पश्चिमी कमान (South Western Command) और दक्षिणी कमान (Southern Command)—का नेतृत्व करने का दुर्लभ गौरव प्राप्त है, जहां उन्होंने ढाई साल से अधिक समय तक रणनीतिक देखरेख की।

नए सेना प्रमुख का पेशेवर सैन्य शिक्षा में बेहतरीन रिकॉर्ड रहा है। वह हायर कमांड कोर्स और नेशनल डिफेंस कॉलेज के स्नातक हैं। इसके अलावा, उन्होंने पेरिस, फ्रांस में प्रतिष्ठित कमांड एंड स्टाफ कोर्स में भी भाग लिया है, जो समकालीन वैश्विक सैन्य मामलों पर उनकी गहरी रणनीतिक समझ को दर्शाता है।

NEW DELHI: General Dhiraj Seth on Tuesday took over as the 31st Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), succeeding General Upendra Dwivedi, who superannuated after a distinguished military career spanning over four decades.
An alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla, General Seth was commissioned into the Armoured Corps in December 1986. Over his nearly 40-year career, the General Officer has held critical command, staff, and strategic appointments across diverse operational theatres.
Extensive Command Experience
General Seth has the rare distinction of commanding two operational commands of the Indian Army—the South Western Command and the Southern Command—providing strategic oversight for over two and a half years.
His previous command assignments span various challenging operational environments, including:
An Armoured Regiment in the Desert Sector.
An Armoured Brigade in the Western Theatre.
A Counter-Insurgency Force in Jammu & Kashmir.
The Sudarshan Chakra Corps, one of the Army’s premier strike formations.
Delhi Area as General Officer Commanding (GOC), overseeing key ceremonial and strategic military engagements.
Focus on Modernisation and Strategy
Widely recognized for his expertise in force modernization, General Seth has held pivotal roles within the Strategic Planning and Capability Development verticals at the Army Headquarters. He has been instrumental in shaping the Indian Army’s long-term force structuring, aligning operational requirements with emerging technologies to meet future battlefield challenges.
Academic and International Profile
The new Army Chief has a distinguished academic record in professional military education. He is a graduate of the Higher Command Course and the National Defence College. Additionally, he attended the prestigious Command & Staff Course in Paris, France, reinforcing his strategic perspective on global military affairs.
