हिंसक प्रदर्शन और प्रशासनिक कार्रवाई
दतिया प्रशासन के अनुसार, यह हिंसक प्रदर्शन 10 जुलाई की शाम को शुरू हुआ और 11 जुलाई की सुबह तक जारी रहा। 'द वायर' की रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक, आक्रोशित कार्यकर्ताओं ने पुलिस पर पथराव किया, वाहनों को पलटा और व्यावसायिक ट्रकों व राहगीरों की कारों के शीशे तोड़ दिए। इसके अतिरिक्त, प्रदर्शनकारियों ने चार पुलिस वाहनों को क्षतिग्रस्त किया और एक अन्य वाहन में आग लगाने का प्रयास भी किया।
दतिया के जिला मजिस्ट्रेट (DM) स्वप्निल वानखेड़े ने बताया कि शुक्रवार शाम करीब 5 बजे शुरू हुए इस चक्काजाम के कारण राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग पर 15-20 किलोमीटर लंबा ट्रैफिक जाम लग गया, जिससे दतिया सहित ग्वालियर, Shivpuri और झांसी जैसे पड़ोसी जिलों का यातायात भी प्रभावित हुआ। जाम में एम्बुलेंस और बसें फंसी रहीं, जिससे आम जनता को भारी असुविधा का सामना करना पड़ा। शनिवार सुबह 4 बजे जब अतिरिक्त पुलिस बल के साथ प्रदर्शनकारियों को हटाने का प्रयास किया गया, तो भीड़ की तरफ से भारी पथराव शुरू हो गया, जिसके जवाब में पुलिस को आंसू गैस के गोले छोड़ने पड़े। जिला प्रशासन के अनुसार, इस पथराव में पुलिस अधीक्षक (SP) मयूर खंडेलवाल, अतिरिक्त एसपी और खुद जिला मजिस्ट्रेट सहित करीब आठ पुलिसकर्मी व अधिकारी घायल हुए हैं। एसपी ने प्रदर्शनकारियों को "हुड़दंगी" करार दिया और कहा कि उन्होंने दतिया शहर का माहौल बिगाड़ने का प्रयास किया MadhyaPradeshByElections, ElectionControversy, LeadershipChallenges

'द वायर' के अनुसार, इस उपचुनाव के लिए भाजपा ने नरोत्तम मिश्रा की जगह मध्य प्रदेश हाउसिंग बोर्ड के पूर्व अध्यक्ष और पूर्व संभागीय संगठन सचिव आशुतोष तिवारी को अपना उम्मीदवार घोषित कर दिया, जिससे मिश्रा के समर्थक नाराज हो गए।
पार्टी पदाधिकारियों के इस्तीफे और नरोत्तम मिश्रा का रुख
टिकट वितरण से असंतुष्ट होकर दतिया भाजपा के जिला अध्यक्ष रघुवीर सिंह कुशवाहा सहित जिला पंचायत अध्यक्ष, 291 बूथ प्रमुखों और कई अन्य पदाधिकारियों ने अपने पदों से सामूहिक इस्तीफा दे दिया है। कुशवाहा ने पार्टी के शीर्ष नेतृत्व को 24 घंटे का अल्टीमेटम देते हुए कहा कि यदि उम्मीदवार नहीं बदला गया तो वे प्राथमिक सदस्यता से भी इस्तीफा दे देंगे। उन्होंने अपनी ही सरकार में पुलिस द्वारा कार्यकर्ताओं पर की गई कार्रवाई को अनुचित बताते हुए कहा कि वे भाजपा कार्यकर्ता हैं, अपराधी नहीं।
इस पूरे घटनाक्रम पर वरिष्ठ नेता नरोत्तम मिश्रा ने एक कूटनीतिक और संयमित रुख अपनाया है। उन्होंने इसे पार्टी का निर्णय बताते हुए कार्यकर्ताओं से हिंसक प्रदर्शन न करने की अपील की। उन्होंने कहा, "पार्टी मंच के भीतर विचारों को उचित तरीके से व्यक्त किया जाता है, इस तरह नहीं।" दूसरी ओर, वरिष्ठ भाजपा नेता और कैबिनेट मंत्री कैलाश विजयवर्गीय ने कहा कि भाजपा कार्यकर्ता अनुशासित हैं और आशुतोष तिवारी भारी मतों से जीत दर्ज करेंगे। मध्य प्रदेश भाजपा अध्यक्ष हेमंत खंडेलवाल ने भी भोपाल में आशुतोष तिवारी का स्वागत कर उन्हें बधाई दी।

इस घटनाक्रम पर प्रतिक्रिया देते हुए मध्य प्रदेश कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष जीतू पटवारी ने कानून-व्यवस्था बनाए रखने में विफल रहने का आरोप लगाते हुए दतिया के कलेक्टर और एसपी को तत्काल हटाने की मांग की है। इसके साथ ही उन्होंने दावा किया कि दतिया की जनता कांग्रेस विधायक राजेंद्र भारती को "साजिश के तहत" हटाए जाने का बदला आगामी उपचुनाव में भाजपा से लेगी।

According to a report by The Wire, hundreds of supporters of senior BJP leader and former Home Minister Narottam Mishra clashed with the police and blocked National Highway-44 (NH-44) for nearly 12 hours after he was denied a party ticket.
Local authorities stated that the violent demonstration began on the evening of July 10 and continued until the dawn of July 11. Enraged party workers pelted stones at law enforcement personnel, overturned vehicles, and smashed the windows of commercial trucks and commuter cars. The protestors also damaged four police vehicles and attempted to set another on fire. Datia District Magistrate (DM) Swapnil Wankhede reported that the blockade resulted in a massive traffic jam stretching 15 to 20 kilometers, severely impacting transit in Datia and adjoining areas like Gwalior, Shivpuri, and Jhansi. Ambulances and buses were caught in the gridlock, causing widespread public distress. When additional forces were deployed at 4:00 AM on Saturday to clear the highway, the crowd retaliated with stone-pelting, prompting the police to use tear gas to disperse them. Around eight police personnel, including Datia Superintendent of Police (SP) Mayur Khandelwal and the Additional SP, sustained injuries. SP Khandelwal characterized the protestors as rioters who deliberately disrupted the peace of the city.
The bypoll in Datia was necessitated after the sitting Congress MLA, Rajendra Bharti—who had defeated Narottam Mishra in the 2023 assembly elections by a margin of over 7,700 votes—was disqualified following a criminal conviction in April. The Delhi High Court recently dismissed Bharti's plea to stay his conviction. In a surprise political move, the BJP central leadership declared Ashutosh Tiwari, the former president of the MP Housing Board, as its official candidate instead of Mishra. This decision provoked strong resentment among Mishra's loyalists, leading to the collective resignation of Datia BJP District President Raghuvir Singh Kushwaha, the Zilla Panchayat President, and 291 booth heads. Kushwaha criticized the selection as a "one-sided" decision that ignored the sentiments of grassroots workers and issued a 24-hour ultimatum to change the candidate, threatening a mass exit from the party's primary membership. Senior BJP leader and Cabinet Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya downplayed the infighting, emphasizing that the party remains disciplined and expressing confidence that Tiwari would win the seat by a substantial margin.
