नई दिल्ली: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) ने नार्कोटिक्स तस्करी के खिलाफ एक बड़ा एक्शन लेते हुए त्रिपुरा और पश्चिम बंगाल में दो अलग-अलग ऑपरेशन्स चलाए हैं। इन ऑपरेशन्स में DRI ने भारी मात्रा में कोडीन-बेस्ड कफ सिरप (Codeine-based cough syrup) की बोतलें जब्त की हैं। यह पूरी कार्रवाई NDPS Act, 1985 के तहत की गई है।
पहला ऑपरेशन: त्रिपुरा (अगरतला ट्रेन से बरामदगी)
2 जुलाई 2026 को DRI के अधिकारियों ने अगरतला जाने वाली एक ट्रेन के पार्सल वैन में आ रहे कंसाइनमेंट को इंटरसेप्ट किया।
छुपाने का तरीका: तस्करी करने वालों ने चालाकी से कफ सिरप की बोतलों को 80 मेटल के ड्रम्स (metallic drums) में छुपाया था और उनके ऊपर पाउडर की एक परत बिछा दी थी ताकि किसी को शक न हो।
बरामदगी: इस ऑपरेशन में कुल 55,626 बोतलें बरामद की गईं।
गिरफ्तारी: इस कार्रवाई में Railway Protection Force (RPF) और असम राइफल्स ने भी मदद की। कंसाइनमेंट की डिलीवरी लेने आए एक आरोपी को मौके से गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया है। DRI Operations, Codeine Cough Syrup, Law Enforcement
दूसरा ऑपरेशन: पश्चिम बंगाल (डंकुनी का गोदाम)
लगभग इसी समय, DRI ने पश्चिम बंगाल के डंकुनी (Dankuni) में एक गोदाम पर छापेमारी की।
छुपाने का तरीका: यहाँ भी 104 सीलबंद लोहे के ड्रम्स के अंदर चाइना क्ले पाउडर (china clay powder) के नीचे बोतलें छुपाई गई थीं।
बरामदगी: इस गोदाम से 56,225 कोडीन कफ सिरप की बोतलें जब्त की गईं।
कुल रिकवरी और चिंता का विषय
इन दोनों ऑपरेशन्स को मिलाकर DRI ने कुल 1.11 लाख से ज्यादा बोतलें जब्त की हैं।
क्यों होती है इसकी तस्करी? कोडीन (Codeine) अफीम (opium) का एक डेरिवेटिव है, जिसका इस्तेमाल दवाओं में एक सीमित और लीगल तरीके से किया जाता है। लेकिन इसके नशे की लत (abuse potential) के कारण ड्रग ट्रैफिकिंग नेटवर्क अक्सर इसे अवैध रूप से मार्केट में सप्लाई करने के लिए टारगेट करते हैं।
DRI के मुताबिक, यह कार्रवाई दिखाती है कि कैसे बड़े स्मगलिंग सिंडिकेट्स नए-नए तरीकों से नशीली दवाओं की हेराफेरी करने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं। हालांकि, DRI ने साफ किया है कि वे ऐसे नेटवर्क्स को पूरी तरह खत्म करने के लिए लगातार अलर्ट पर हैं।
Major Crackdown by DRI: Over 1 Lakh Bottles of Codeine Cough Syrup Seized in Tripura and West Bengal; One Arrested
New Delhi: In a major breakthrough against narcotics smuggling, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has launched two separate operations in Tripura and West Bengal. During these operations, a massive consignment of Codeine-based cough syrup bottles was seized under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985.
First Operation: Tripura (Seizure from Agartala-bound Train)
On July 2, 2026, DRI officers intercepted a suspicious consignment being transported in the parcel van of a train heading towards Agartala.
The Concealment Method: The smugglers had ingeniously hidden the cough syrup bottles inside 80 metallic drums, covering them with a thick layer of a powdery substance to avoid suspicion.
Recovery: A total of 55,626 bottles of Codeine-based cough syrup were recovered and seized from the spot.
Arrest: The operation was successfully executed with the assistance of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Assam Rifles. One individual who arrived to take delivery of the consignment was arrested.
Second Operation: West Bengal (Warehouse Raid in Dankuni)
Around the same time, DRI officers conducted another raid at a warehouse located in Dankuni, West Bengal.
The Concealment Method: Here, the syndicate used 104 sealed iron drums. The contraband bottles were cleverly hidden beneath a layer of china clay powder inside the drums to evade detection.
Recovery: A total of 56,225 bottles of Codeine-based cough syrup were seized during this warehouse search.
Total Seizure and the Growing Concern
Combining both operations, the DRI has successfully seized around 1.11 lakh bottles of illicit cough syrup and arrested one person.
Why is Codeine targeted? Codeine is an opium derivative that has legitimate therapeutic and legal uses in regulated pharmaceutical products. However, due to its high potential for addiction and abuse, drug trafficking networks frequently target and divert these pharmaceutical preparations for illegal consumption.
According to DRI officials, these massive seizures highlight the continuous and innovative tactics used by organized smuggling syndicates to traffic narcotic substances. However, through coordinated, intelligence-driven operations, the DRI remains fully committed to completely dismantling such illicit drug networks.
